SEO Basics for Your Website

A quick primer on how SEO works and best practices for your Corksy site.

SEO (search engine optimization) is how you improve your site’s visibility in unpaid (“organic”) search results. The platform matters less than your content — clear, well-structured content is what ranks.

The main components of SEO

  • Content — the text and images visitors see. Use clear, relevant content with the words your customers actually search for.

  • Structure — how your pages and site are organized: heading tags (H1–H6), a logical page layout, and internal links/navigation.

  • Back-end info — what search engines read: site and page titles & descriptions, page URLs, image alt text, your sitemap, and page speed.

Best practices

  • Give every important page a unique, descriptive title and meta description.

  • Use one clear H1 per page, with meaningful subheadings.

  • Add alt text to images.

  • Keep page URLs short and descriptive.

  • The keywords field is optional — major search engines no longer use it for ranking.

Where to set SEO in Corksy

Note: SEO changes can take several weeks for Google to reflect, and Google may sometimes display a different title or description than you set if it decides another is more relevant.
