Popups are small windows that appear on your website. They can be set to appear when clicked as a link, or automatically via a personalization rule. Use popups to grab attention or share information without changing pages.
Step 1: Set up a popup
Log into Corksy.
Go to Online Store → Customize.
In the side panel, click Pages, then the Popups tab.
Click + New Popup.
Select a popup type (this pre-populates it with widgets), name it, and click + Add Popup.
Step 2: Design the popup
Add elements like text (“Join the Wine Club for 15% Off”), images, and CTA buttons (“Book Now,” “Subscribe”). Link buttons to pages or external forms.
Step 3: Activate the popup
Unlike a normal page, a popup only appears when it’s clicked as a link or triggered by a personalization rule. Popup triggers occur only once per session (a session stays active until at least 30–60 minutes have passed).
How to link to a popup
Several widgets can link to a popup (photo gallery image links, text, buttons):
Right-click the widget and select Edit content (or, for text, highlight it and click the link icon).
Click Popup, then choose which popup to link to.
How to add a close element
By default, the X button closes a popup. You can also add a “Close popup” link to any linkable element — for example, a “No thanks” button on a coupon popup. Click a linkable element in the popup and select Close Popup as the link.
How to edit a popup and its settings
A popup edits like a page — add rows, columns, and widgets; drag the bottom-right corner to resize. For settings, go to Pages → Popups tab and click the gear icon on a popup to Rename, Duplicate, or Delete it.
Example popups you can build
Goal | Popup example | Personalization |
Grow email list | “Subscribe for exclusive offers and events” | First-time visitors |
Promote product | “Limited Release Now Available” | Product or shop pages |
Event announcement | “Live Music This Saturday – RSVP Now” | Homepage during event week |
Flash sale | “Today Only: Free Shipping Sitewide” | All pages, set by time/day |
Best practices
Keep it focused: one clear goal per popup.
Design for mobile: always preview on mobile.
Avoid popup fatigue: limit frequency.
Use urgency where appropriate, and review performance to optimize.
