The tip amounts customers see at checkout (the three preset buttons) are set in your Corksy POS settings — not in PayEngine or Stripe. If you've been looking for tip options in your payment provider's dashboard, that's why you couldn't find them.
How do I change the tip amounts shown at checkout?
In your Corksy admin, go to POS settings and open the Tipping section.
Edit the three presets — Tip 1, Tip 2, and Tip 3. These are entered as percentages (for example 15%, 20%, 25%), accept values from 0 to 100, and can't be left blank.
Click Save.
Your new values apply immediately to new transactions — no app restart needed — and show in the same Tip 1 → Tip 2 → Tip 3 order on both the iPad tip screen and the PAX terminal prompt. New accounts start with defaults of 15% / 20% / 25%.
Tips on Card-on-File transactions
Collecting a tip on the PAX device for a Card on File charge isn't something the system can do today — this is a limitation of the device itself, not a setting.
The way to capture a tip on a Card on File charge is to have the tip prompt appear on the iPad / POS screen instead of the PAX terminal, using the "Card on File transactions only" tip setting. With that enabled, the customer selects a tip on the POS screen during the card-on-file charge.
The Tipping section also shows Tip Amount fields
Alongside the percentage presets, the Tipping section includes fixed Tip Amount fields. At the moment the form requires values in both the percentage presets and the Tip Amount fields in order to save — so a percentage-only configuration can't currently be saved.
Known issue. Our engineering team is investigating whether the "both required" behaviour is intended or a validation bug, particularly for Stripe Terminal setups where wineries want percentage-only presets. If this is blocking you, contact support and reference the tip settings investigation — we'll update this article once there's a resolution.
Presets are set per location
Tip presets save per location. If two terminals are showing different tip options, check which location each terminal is assigned to — that's usually the cause rather than a syncing problem.
Calculating tips before discounts
The Tipping section also has a Calculate tip on pre-discount subtotal toggle. By default, tip percentages calculate against the subtotal after discounts are applied. Turn this on and percentage tips calculate against the original subtotal instead — so a $100 order with a $20 club discount produces a 20% tip of $20 rather than $16. Tax is never included in the tip basis either way.
