Use a Combination of Manual and Carrier Rates

How to offer both manual shipping rates and real-time carrier rates so customers can choose at checkout.

Using a combination of manual and carrier rates allows your customer to choose from a handful of shipping options at checkout.

This is recommended when you want to offer faster shipping (like overnight) at real-time carrier prices, rather than at discounted prices.

You must have Manual Rates and Carrier Rates set up first before enabling this option. For the complete guide, see Setting up Shipping & Delivery.

What combination rates look like

With manual and carrier rates both applied, customers can select from options like:

  1. A UPS real-time carrier rate (e.g., $32.70)

  2. A manually created rate at $0 for 7–10 day shipping

  3. A manually created rate at $20 for 5–7 day shipping

Setup instructions

Navigate to your shipping settings to begin.

  1. Start with the first manual rate you’ve created.

    • If you only created a Flat Rate, you only need to edit that rate.

    • If you created multiple zone rates, edit each rate independently.

    • Your manual rates should already be created.

  2. Click Carrier and App Rates.

  3. Click Add Rate.

  4. Keep the selection “Use carrier or app to calculate rates.” Select the carrier you’d like to enable.

  5. Select all the services you’d like to enable. For example, selecting UPS Next Day Air and UPS Ground will only show those options at checkout.

  6. Enter a Handling Fee only if you want to charge an extra fee at checkout — otherwise leave it blank.

  7. Click Save.

  8. Repeat to add another carrier (for example, FedEx and UPS).
