Segmentation – Klaviyo & Mailchimp Sync

Overview

Corksy Segments can sync directly with:

  • Klaviyo

  • Mailchimp

This article explains:

  • Whether segments sync as Lists or Segments

  • Add and remove behavior

  • Static vs Dynamic sync differences

  • Naming behavior

  • Marketing opt-in handling

  • Known limitations

Sync Destination: Lists or Segments?

Corksy segments sync as:

Marketing Lists (Audience Lists) in Klaviyo and Mailchimp.

They are not created as rule-based segments inside Klaviyo or Mailchimp.

Corksy performs all segmentation logic internally and pushes the resulting customer membership to a marketing list.

Segment Name Handling

  • The Corksy Segment Name becomes the List Name in Klaviyo or Mailchimp.

  • If a list with the same name already exists:

    • Customers are synced into the existing list.

  • If the list does not exist:

    • It is automatically created during sync.

Data Sent During Initial Sync

When a segment (Static or Dynamic) is created, the following data is pushed immediately:

Fields Sent

  • Segment Name (as List Name)

  • Customer Name

  • Customer Email

No additional custom attributes or behavioral fields are included in this sync.

Customer Creation & Deduplication

If the Customer Already Exists

  • No duplicate profile is created.

  • The system maps by email address.

  • The customer is added to the corresponding list.

If the Customer Does Not Exist

  • A new profile is created.

  • The customer is added to the list.

Marketing Opt-In Rules

If a customer is marked as Marketing Opt-Out in Corksy:

  • The customer will not sync to Klaviyo or Mailchimp.

  • This applies to both static and dynamic segments.

Only marketing-eligible customers are pushed.

Static Segment Sync Behavior

Initial Push

When a static segment is created:

  • Customers are pushed immediately.

  • The marketing list is created (if needed).

  • Members are added.

After Creation

Static segments:

  • Do not re-evaluate.

  • Do not sync daily.

  • Do not automatically remove customers.

  • Remain unchanged after the initial push.

FAQ

Are static segments added to Klaviyo lists?
✔ Yes — once, at creation.

Dynamic Segment Sync Behavior

Dynamic segments support ongoing synchronization.

Initial Sync

When a dynamic segment is created:

  • Customers are pushed immediately.

  • The list is created (if needed).

  • Members are added.

Daily Update Cycle

Dynamic segments sync:

Once per day at 12:00 AM PST

During this reconciliation:

  • New qualifying customers are added.

  • Customers who no longer meet criteria are removed.

  • List membership is updated to match the segment.

Removal Logic

Are customers removed if they no longer qualify?

  • Yes — for Dynamic Segments (daily at 12:00 AM PST)

  • No — for Static Segments

Dynamic segments perform automatic membership reconciliation. Static segments do not.

Known Limitation

If a customer in a dynamic segment changes their marketing preference (opt-in / opt-out) after the initial segment push:

  • That updated marketing preference will not automatically sync.

  • This is a known limitation.
