Two of the most common Sovos errors are Age Verification and Label Certification. These two issues account for the majority of compliance-related checkout errors.
Age Verification Errors
If a customer sees the error “We can't ship to this address” at checkout, it is most likely related to age verification requirements.
States That Require Age Checks
Currently, the following states require age verification for offsite alcohol shipments:
Alaska
Arizona
Georgia
Indiana
Kansas
Michigan
Ohio
South Dakota
Option 1: Bypass Age Verification by State
Log in to Sovos.
In the sidebar, navigate to Compliance.
From the dropdown, select State Details.
In the top-left dropdown, select the relevant state.
Scroll down to Offsite Compliance Rules.
Locate Age Verification Required.
Change the dropdown from Active to Bypass.
Option 2: Manually Verify a Customer’s Age
In the sidebar, navigate to Tools → Age Verification → Age Check Override.
Search for the customer using state or any available field.
Check the box next to the customer.
Click Verify Selected Customer(s).
Select the verification method, verification date, and who verified it.
Label Certification Errors
To diagnose a label certification issue, recreate the order in the Corksy Admin Panel.
Navigate to Orders → Create Order.
Recreate the order using the same products, customer, and shipping address.
Once shipping details are entered, a real-time compliance check will run.
Look for the following error message:
“The following products either do not have a label associated with them or are associated with labels that do not have valid label registrations: [PRODUCT]. Label registration is required for shipping offsite sales to this region. The state fee for this registration is $X.XX.”
This error means the product requires an active label registration in Sovos before it can be shipped to that region.
