Using Mailchimp with Corksy

This document outlines connecting Mailchimp & Corksy, how the integration works, and best practices.

Mailchimp Overview

Mailchimp is a user-friendly email platform, ideal for sending newsletters, basic automations, and managing your winery’s contact list. You build audience segments in Corksy and send them to Mailchimp, where you create and send the actual campaign.

Connect Mailchimp to Corksy

You’ll need an existing Mailchimp account. Corksy connects to Mailchimp using a Client ID and Client Secret you generate in Mailchimp.

  1. In the Corksy Admin Portal, go to Settings → Email Marketing and click Connect Account in the Mailchimp row.

  2. Corksy shows a Redirect URI — copy it.

  3. In a new tab, go to Mailchimp’s app registration page: admin.mailchimp.com/account/oauth2/client and log in.

  4. Register a new app:

    • App name: Corksy

    • App description: any description

    • Company/organization: your winery

    • App website: your site URL

    • Redirect URI: paste the URI you copied from Corksy

  5. Click Create. Mailchimp generates a Client ID and Client Secret.

  6. Copy the Client ID and Client Secret, paste them into Corksy, and click Save.

  7. When prompted, log in to Mailchimp to authorize the integration. Once approved, the connection is complete.

How Mailchimp works with Corksy

Corksy is your source of customer data; Mailchimp is where you design and send campaigns. You build a segment in Corksy and send it to Mailchimp, then create your campaign there using that audience.

Two segmentation versions. Corksy accounts are on one of two versions — Classic (choose from dropdowns and manually send) or the newer beta (type what you want; segments can auto-sync). How you get a segment to Mailchimp depends on which you have. See Sending Corksy Segments to Klaviyo & Mailchimp (Classic vs. Dynamic) to find which you have and the exact steps for each. Full workflow: Setting Up Email Marketing with MailChimp.

  • Mailchimp de-duplicates contacts by email, so re-sending a segment won’t create duplicate profiles.

  • Only marketing opted-in customers are sent.

Best practices in Mailchimp

  • Keep all contacts under one master Mailchimp audience, and use tags to organize them.

  • When importing, choose “Update existing contacts” so current data isn’t overwritten with blanks.

  • Clean your list every 3–6 months, or after major events (e.g., a Q2 club run), and suppress inactive subscribers.
