Switching Compliance Providers (Reconnecting to ShipCompliant / SOVOS)

Overview

Corksy supports multiple compliance providers: Automatic (Avalara), SOVOS (ShipCompliant), and Manual. If you switch to Automatic compliance and then want to reconnect to ShipCompliant (SOVOS), there is an important step that's easy to miss — you must disconnect Automatic compliance first before the provider dropdown reappears.

How to Reconnect to ShipCompliant (SOVOS)

  1. In your Corksy admin portal, go to Settings → Shipping & Tax Compliance

  2. Disconnect Automatic compliance — click the Disconnect or Remove button for your current Automatic/Avalara setup. This step is required; the provider dropdown will not appear until Automatic is disconnected.

  3. Once Automatic is disconnected, the compliance provider dropdown will reappear on the page

  4. Select SOVOS from the dropdown

  5. Enter your ShipCompliant Web Service User credentials:

    • Login Name: the email address of your Web Service User

    • Password: the Web Service User password

  6. Enable CRV Tax if applicable to your winery (California wineries selling CRV items)

  7. Click Save

Once saved, all future sales will route through ShipCompliant for compliance checks.

Creating a Web Service User in ShipCompliant

ShipCompliant requires a dedicated Web Service User account for API integrations — your regular ShipCompliant login will not work here. If you don't have one:

  1. Log into your ShipCompliant account

  2. Go to Settings → Users

  3. Click Add User

  4. Set the Role Type to Web Service User

  5. Save and note the login name and password — these are what you'll enter in Corksy

⚠️ Key Thing to Know

When Automatic compliance is active, the provider dropdown on the Compliance settings page is hidden. Many users expect to see a dropdown immediately after navigating to the page — if you don't see it, you're likely still connected to Automatic. Disconnect it first and the dropdown will appear.

Compliance Provider Options in Corksy

  • SOVOS (ShipCompliant): Full DTC wine compliance, license checks, and ShipCompliant reporting

  • Automatic: Uses Avalara for tax calculation; simpler setup but does not provide ShipCompliant's compliance tracking or reporting

  • Manual: No automated compliance checking; you manage compliance outside of Corksy
