Discounts

How discounts work in Corksy: discount methods, scope, how discounts combine (stacking), eligibility, channels, minimums, usage limits, and scheduling.

Updated discount engine

Corksy now runs on a single, consolidated discount engine. Discounts can combine (stack) in more flexible ways, target customers by tag, class, and club, run on a schedule down to the minute, and enforce usage limits. If you need help building a campaign, Corksy Complete can help.

Ways to create a discount

From the Corksy admin portal, go to Discounts and click + Add New Discount. Choose how the discount is triggered:

  • Automatic Discount – applies automatically at checkout when all conditions are met. See Automatic Discounts.

  • Manual Discount Code – requires the customer to enter a promo code at checkout. See Manual Discount Codes.

For quick, on-the-spot discounts in the tasting room, use Point of Sale → Quick POS Discounts.

Discount scope: Order, Products, Shipping

Every discount applies to one scope only: Order (the entire subtotal; supports exclusions), Products (only eligible products, by collection, product type, or individual product), or Shipping (shipping charges only).

What happened to "Reservation" and "Wine Tasting" discounts?

Reservation is no longer its own discount type — it's now a sales channel you enable on an Order discount. Existing reservation discounts were automatically migrated and behave the same as before.

How discounts combine (stacking)

This is the biggest change in the new engine, and the source of most "why did/didn't my discount apply?" questions.

Discounts only combine when you explicitly place them together in a stacking set (Discounts → Stacking). Without a set, each order still receives a single discount. See Discount Stacking Rules for how to build one.

  • An order always ends with exactly one final outcome – a single discount or a stacking set. Being eligible doesn't guarantee a discount is applied.

  • When more than one outcome is possible, Corksy applies the one with the highest total discount value; the rest are ignored.

  • A stacking set uses one of two patterns, never both: up to 24 product discounts + 1 shipping discount (25 total), OR 1 order discount + 1 shipping discount. Order and product discounts never apply together.

  • Each line item gets only one discount (the highest it qualifies for); only one shipping discount per order. If one discount in a set fails (e.g., a usage limit), the whole set drops – there's no partial stacking.

For the full rules and examples, see Discount Stacking Rules.

Who a discount applies to (eligibility)

Eligibility controls who can receive a discount; scope controls what it applies to. Options include all customers; all clubs or specific clubs (optionally including paused members); customers with specific tags; and customers in specific classes. Only active club memberships are eligible by default; cancelled ones never are.

Sales channel controls

Limit a discount to specific order types: Point of Sale (by location), Website (E-commerce), Admin, Club, Bulk, and Reservations.

Minimum requirements

Minimums determine whether a discount becomes eligible: none, minimum purchase amount, minimum item quantity, minimum items from a product type or collection, or "buy X products with minimum quantity." Reservation orders don't enforce minimums.

Usage limits

Set a maximum total number of uses and/or a maximum per customer. Limits are shared across channels, removing a discount from an order doesn't consume a use, and limits are re-checked at completion – so a discount can look valid mid-checkout but drop off if the limit is reached elsewhere first.

Usage limits cap how many times a discount is used — not how many items it discounts in one order. A "maximum uses per customer" limit controls how many separate times a customer can use the discount; it does not cap the number of eligible items discounted within a single order. So there is currently no automatic discount that says "only the first N qualifying items in this order are discounted" — if a product discount applies and a customer adds more qualifying items to the same order, all of them are discounted. If you need a per-item cap within an order (e.g. "first 4 tasting fees free"), that isn't supported today; handle it manually or contact support.

Active dates and scheduling

Set a start date and optional end date, plus optional start/end times for flash sales down to the minute. Choose No End Date for ongoing discounts. A future-dated discount can now have its start date moved back to today to activate immediately. See Edit a discount and Delete a discount.
